2018 IRELAND POSITION PAPER

West Anchorage High School

David Vano, vano_david@asdk12.org

Ireland feels strongly that there should be something done to combat climate change and rising sea levels, as it poses a threat to Ireland and many other small island countries, such as Samoa and Jamaica, where coastlines are slowly being covered by rising sea levels. Ireland is also in support of any actions to promote telecommunications worldwide, including encouraging women to consider studies and careers in ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies). Ireland will also lend its support to anti-ISIS efforts, but will not participate in any military activities in regards to ISIS and would not like to be advertised as aiding in these efforts. However, Ireland has been actively helping anti-ISIS efforts by accepting refugees affected by ISIS activities and by stemming the flow of foreign fighters who seek to aid ISIS. Also, Ireland has pledged to accept 310 Syrian refugees since 2011. We are excited to participate in this year’s United Nations conference and look forward to working with all of the other nations in committee.
